E69: All about change communications

I’ve spent the past few weeks meeting with incredible organizations hearing more about change that they are implementing.  The biggest fear I hear about from sponsors?  Communications.

Change commands different skills from sponsors. As a change manager, the most pressing issues for sponsors are:

  1. Support for their communications

  2. A clear understanding of what good organizational change communications look like

In this episode we dive deeper into how to support sponsor communication needs, from the perspective of supporting a change sponsor who is an excellent and skilled operations leader.

Most executives have excellent communications skills but find that change pushes them out of their comfort zone.

For sponsor executive communications I talk about:

  1. The importance of authenticity and how you as the change manager support that

  2. Key messages, what they are and how to use them

  3. Planning communications (what, when, where, why, how)

I also talk about organizational communications and what you need to focus on as a change manager including:

  1. How to run a communications program without the support of the organizational communications office

  2. Tactics, audiences and stakeholders

  3. Storytelling and how to use it in change communications
