E71: Choose your tools wisely

Many of us are used to doing change facilitation manually (flip chart and sticky notes, anyone?) when thinking about how to translate these experiences into the virtual world, we need to be paying special attention to what tools we are using.

In this episode, I talk about:

  1. Defining the purpose of the facilitation/interaction and determining the best tool to use to bring people together

  2. Understanding the limitations and advantages of the virtual meeting tool that you’re using

  3. How do you want people to interact with you, and with each other during the session

  4. Collaboration! How are you hosting and facilitating that!

  5. Expectations for participation and how participants will show up in session

  6. Determining activities and exercises, and choosing tools that fit the workflow and process most closely

Ultimately, make it easy for participants to interact, participate and contribute to the session!

I also talk about some of the tools I’m using for things like note-taking, and transcription that help you stay in the moment as a facilitator.

And the last and most important thing – virtual and hybrid facilitation open up the possibility that people can collaborate and interact with the content before and after the facilitation event!

PS. I'm giving away my free guide on how to lead successful facilitations in hybrid and virtual environments in this month's newsletter. Want a copy?  sign up here: https://www.connectedchange.com/newsletter
