E64: Why we Resist Change

In this episode I talk about why we resist change. Resistance is part of our human condition. We resist every change, even the ones that we lead and initiate ourselves!

When we are leading organizational change, it is helpful to think of change in two ways.  Change that you’re leading, and change that happens to you.  How we respond to change is dependent upon how we experience it.

And, for those who have change happen to them, there are still choices.

I talk about the 5 choices available to people when change happens to them, opting out, resisting, ignoring, complying or enlisting.

The difference between the choice to enlist and everything else? It’s all about mindset!

When I previously spoke about “change that happens to you” and the diffusion of innovation curve, it was this episode.

I referenced a ton of resources, change models and books, you can find the listings here and here.
